Orange County High School of the Arts (OCHSA), colloquially called "OH-sha, is a public 7th grade-12 public charter school located in downtown Santa Ana, Orange County, California. The school is aimed at middle and high school students talented in the performing and visual arts and literature. Education program prepares students for higher education institutions and / or work in the professional arts industry. Both the curriculum and the arts are recognized, prompting recognition in U.S. News "Best High Schools."

History
Orange County High School of the Arts, reorganized as a public charter school on April 20, 2000, and moved its center principal of Los Alamitos High School in the Santa Ana Unified School District. OCHSA is a free donation dependent enrollment charter school run by a Board of Trustees representing the parents, the community, educators, and the Santa Ana Unified School District. The school is also supported by The Orange County High School Foundation Art, a nonprofit organization dedicated to financial aid programs tuition free school of art and its ongoing expansion plans. The Foundation is a trademark registered 501 (c) (3) nonprofit organization governed by a volunteer Board of prominent business and cultural leaders. With staff development input and guidance, the Board of the Foundation provides fund-raising goals, manages the strategic planning long-term equity instruments of the school, public relations and marketing campaigns, and oversees funding criteria. Members pay annual dues in the fund-raising committees, attend school activities and serve as ambassadors of the community in general.
Academics
The Orange County High School of the Arts offers a rigorous academic program that produces high-achieving, motivated scholars. OCHSA high school hours are from 8:10 am to 4:50 pm Monday through Thursday and 8:10 a.m. to 1:30 pm on Fridays. The middle school schedule is from 8:10 am to 3:30 pm Monday through Thursday and 8:10 am to 1:30 pm on Fridays.
Until 13:30 every day, students OCHSA attend academic standard under a block schedule system with three academic classes per day, alternating each day for a total of six classes. Honors classes are offered as well as many advanced classes including AP World History, U.S. History AP, AP Physics, AP Statistics, AP Spanish, AP French, Composition and AP Literature, AP Language and Composition, AP Calculus, AP Biology, AP Chemistry, AP Art History and AP Music Theory. Also OCHSA has a unique selection of electives including but not limited to acting, piano, Pottery, Make Up, Graphic Design, Taekwondo, and photographs.
OCHSA 2008 Academic Performance Index (API) of 871 school ranked as one of the top five high schools in Orange County and 10 percent in California.
OCHSA was named a Blue Ribbon School (American education first prize for a particular school) in 2006 by the U.S. Department Education. OCHSA was one of 250 Blue Ribbon schools, nationally recognized in 2006, among 35 schools in the State of California and five public schools in Orange County. OCHSA also was named a California Distinguished School.
According to the school, 99% of alumni OCHSA go to college [citation needed]. Students also must maintain at least a 2.0 grade point average to continue participating in its conservatory of art.
Live Art Attack

The "Live Art Attack "is OCHSA daily live broadcast television ad of the day. The show began broadcasting a group of four students from the Film and Television (Fein Jarrett and Michael Nunes, Ryan Wilkinson and Robert Chambers on techniques) Conservatory in September 2003.
Today, members of the crew will mostly students of School Leadership (ASB) of class, not OCHSA Winter Film and Television. The show airs one of the two live television studios OCHSA Production in construction technology. School students are given the opportunity to audition to host the show. This show is full of creative people who make art attack by a very interesting and unique OCHSA.
Arts
After 2:00 pm Monday through Thursday, the school focuses in art education, which is divided into 11 conservatories: Production and Design, Folklrico Ballet, Classical and Contemporary Dance, Commercial Dance, Writing Creative, Film and Television, Integrated Arts, Instrumental Music (divided into Classical Instrumental, Piano and Jazz), Music and Theatre (divided in Musical Theatre, drama and vocals), Opera, and visual arts. Conservatory ends at 4:50 but students can stay later if necessary to test or work.
James P. Blaylock, an author fantasy, is Director of the Department of Creative Writing at OCHSA. Writer in Residence The department is the award-winning fantasy author Tim Powers. Each month, the conservatory Creative Writing is a reading.
The Instrumental Music Department has many concerts throughout the year, and performed at Carnegie Hall in New York in the spring 2006. His Symphony Orchestra, directed by Chris Russell, held at the Sydney Opera House in the summer of 2008.
The Production and Design Conservatory OCHSA designed the costumes, lighting, sound, makeup and more than 125 games for school performances each year. This year welcomes a new director, Kevin Cook, and many teachers new, including Kokesch Aaron, Wally Huntoon, Ray Gibson and Scott Collins.
OCHSA biggest annual event is the season finale, held in early June at the County Orange Performing Arts Center. The Finale recognizes outstanding graduate students, information about each conservatory, drama and instrumental performances, often showing parts of the main activities for this year.
OCHSA Fundraising Gala is the other major event that took place on the coast of Orange County end of March. Gala is a fundraising theme event in which students OCHSA conservatories showcase their diverse talents. It takes place in a hotel ballroom into a theater in full operation by the Directorate of Production and Design students. Gala theme for 2009 is "Jubilee of Paris."

Because OCHSA is a suburban campus of students from 92 cities [citation needed], many students ride Metrolink and Amtrak rail services use the services of OCTA bus or carpool with other students.
Has OCHSA school dances at least three high each year: Homecoming (despite the lack of sports equipment), Winter Formal, and Prom (grades 11 and 12 only). All dances are themed, held in off-campus locations, and funded by ticket sales. For the 2006-2007 school year, the school added a MORP "or" dance backwards. "
The extended hours OCHSA represent a challenge for some students. Most students have to practice their particular art after school and still find time to finish their homework. Many students find little time staff during the week between school work, practicing his art studies, homework, and travel long distances to get home. Before and after classes and shows, many students visit the restaurants in the nearby village of artists, such as the Gypsy Den or Starbucks.
Campus
OCHSA campus consists of an office tower of seven stories (formerly a bank) and three surrounding buildings. The main tower of a bank vault is still in use as a work area teachers, and sometimes an octagonal theater.

OCHSA has two in the campus locations. Symphony Hall, a theater that holds most medium to large OCHSA performances, formerly an historic church of Christian Science, before being converted into a theater. The room contains a theater, a rehearsal room side, separate rooms for instrumental musicians practice, a basement and a library for creative writers, one in front of the cabin house audio, and a balcony overlooking the auditorium of the Production and design students. This balcony cabin lighting homes ETC Source Four multiple followspots, and Lycian M2 Followspot nicknamed "The Spartan Laser." There is a plan to expand the Symphony Hall in a parking lot nearby. The other place on campus is the Black Box theater, which owns the majority of small actions OCHSA.
The one-story "building technology" houses the greater part of the department of Film and Television, the computer graphics department of Visual Arts, and the administrative offices of a few. There are two totally equipped cites studies [edit], one primarily for the production of live television and the other for film work. There is also a computer lab and a number of single video editing. The daytime campus television news program run by students, the Art Attack Live broadcast from the TV studio and adjacent control room.
Located between the main center of technology and the creation of the totem pole, "a tower of five ceramic floor tile roof. It serves as a meeting place for students during breaks, as well as loading and unloading area.
OCHSA of "Annex" is a combination of two white buildings and windows connected by a set of ramps called "the labyrinth of cheese" or "Star Tours" (coined by Ciecek Deputy Mike). The Annex is home to many dance and vocal rooms and contains the production and design studio, where the games are built production OCHSA and painted. The annex also contains the "Harry Potter" room, a classroom of Creative Writing at the base of the ladder that connects the two halves building. The room contains a collection of scripts and books, quilts and pillows and armchairs.
